Can You Help?

January 28th, 2010

IMG_0245A couple of months ago I did a post about the village life in Honduras. http://perezstudios.com/blog/travel/villagelife  Our church is planning on going again and I was thinking of putting together some things for them to take with them.  I know they need money and was thinking that would be perfect but how do you go about getting people to trust you on the internet?  When I came back from Honduras I had some of my photos for sale and the proceeds went to the family in the photo.  I only made about $100 and thought I could try it again and see what I could get.

If anyone is interested in helping out with the people in Honduras then let me know and I can take donations of any kind and make sure they get them.  If you have any questions please feel free to let me know and I will try my best to answer them.

I was listening on the radio and heard about a man who was eating a Chipotle burrito everyday for every meal for one week.  I was thinking of doing something similar to that but couldn’t come up with any ideas other than pizza or tacos.  Would anyone sponsor me or be interested in that idea?  Let me know.  Thanks again and God Bless!

La Marimba

January 6th, 2010

La Marimba

Manuel Perez took this photo of la marimba while he was in Honduras with his church back in 2006.  Manuel and his church went to witness and see first hand the troubles that the people of Honduras experience everyday.  From crime to poverty, Honduras is just a small part of the issues this world has.  Manuel was at a revival on the second night in San Pedro Sulas and  a member from a nearby church brought in a xylophone made out of wood.  The member said he was walking through the jungle one day when he was a child and stepped on a piece of wood and noticed the amazing sound it made.  He fell in love with music ever since.  He made the xylophone out of wood and it makes an amazing sound.  They did a performance for the revival that evening.

Pillar

This is a photo of a pillar that I photographed while I was in Central America in Honduras.  This pillar stands just outside the church where we stayed at most of the time while in San Pedro Sulas.  I love the detail in the photo.

Mural

This is a photo of a mural that was put together with tile pieces inside a hotel in the middle of San Pedro Sulas, Honduras.  We went to have lunch at the hotel restaurant and I noticed the beautiful mural and how it had so much detail.  I snapped the photo with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT.

Village Life

This is a photo from a village just outside of San Pedro Sulas, Honduras.  We went to visit this village and see first hand how some of the villagers live.  Some homes as you can see have no walls or roof.  We actually visited a young man who was working on putting some pieces of metal on the sides to provide shelter from the rain.  He didn’t have enough wood so we provided him with the wood that we had used to build the altar back in town.

San Pedro Sulas – Honduras

San Pedro Sulas - Honduras

I took this photo back in 2006 when my pastor asked if I would go with him and some other church members to Central America.  We flew into San Pedro Sulas, Honduras and stayed there for a couple of days and then we traveled over to Guatemala.  I must say that it was a very interesting trip.  It actually gave me the a view of what the United States Citizens or Population take for granted.  We visited some churches in the area and actually hosted a church revival out in the streets a couple of nights.  Some moments seemed pretty intense when they told us the stories about revivals from the past.  They said the area is crawling with people that will kill you for no reason.  We actually encountered no hostile or violent experiences but there were some interesting characters that we came across.  I will try to put some more photos from Honduras and Guatemala soon but for now you can click on the Honduras and Guatemala categories to view them all.

Jugo de Coco

Coconut Juice

Manuel Perez snapped this photo while he was visiting Honduras with his church back a couple of years ago.  We went to visit the home of the in-laws of the pastor we went to visit.  The man there gave us a sample of all of fruits his property had to offer.  Especially this shot of him chopping open some coconuts for us to eat and enjoy.  I snapped this photo with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT.

Village in Honduras

This is a photo of one village outside of San Pedro Sulas in Honduras.  As you can see the homes are not ready to pass a design and safety inspection but yet the people live in them.  Some children have shoes with a different shoe on each foot and some have no shoes at all.  Some children are able to afford to go to school and some cannot.  Below you see a photo of a little girl who stands in front of the front door of her home.  As you can see the front door of this home looks just like a gate that you can clearly see inside.  The living room is not covered.  The only shelter they have from the rain is the bedroom which holds all of the family members inside.

Taking It To The Streets

Church Gathering

This is a photo that I took while in Honduras a couple of years back.  I was asked to go with our church to go and take pictures and video for the trip to document the mission.  We were staying in the city of San Pedro Sulas and I think it is a very beautiful place just filled with a lot of loving people.  The pastor’s decided to have a service out in the streets, (Which you can see there really isn’t any streets, just dirt roads except for the city part.)  We had three services on three nights in a row.  It was a great turnout.  Lots of people were able to come and enjoy the services and some even received God for the first time in their lives.  I snapped this photo with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and my Canon 18 – 55mm lens.  If anyone wants to see more photos from the Honduras trip just let me know.  I will be glad to post them.

The Fisherman

The Fisherman

This is a photo of a fisherman using his net to catch fish.  I took this picture while traveling with my church to Central America.  We traveled to Honduras and then went up to Guatemala to relax a bit.  This photo was taken while we stopped for lunch along the “Rio Dulce” or the Sweet River.  Guatemala is a very beautiful country because of all of its jungle life and originality.  We went over to the village of Livingston which you can only get there by boat or ferry.  I snapped this photo with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and my Sigma 70-300mm lens.
