IMG 0099 Fire Away

Here it is the weekend is arriving and I cant believe it is March already.  I wanted to get a few comments from some readers and see if anyone has ever traveled to any countries within Central America.  If you have had the privilege of traveling below Mexico then I would love to see your photos.  The photo above is from when I traveled with my church to Honduras and Guatemala in 2006.  The cannon is just one of the many that protected Castillo De San Felipe.  The fort is a very large fort that is in the middle of Lake Izabal in Guatemala.  It has a large view of any pirate vessels that decided to travel inland from the Caribbean.  Sounds cool.  Almost like watching Pirates of the Caribbean.

If you have any photos from any similar places with some great stories to share about them, then feel free to share them with us.

Thanks for reading!

Here is a photo of a small dingy boat the was floating at a pier in Lake Izabal in Guatemala.

You can see the bridge in the background.  They say that the bridge is a suicide dream.  Lots and lots of people go there to throw themselves over.

Thanks for reading.

A sign marking the “Torreon De Bustamante” dedicated or created in the year 1595.  This photo was taken at the Castillo De San Felipe just in the middle of Lake Izabal or Lago Izabal which feeds out to the Gulf through the Rio Dulce.

The Tower where the canons are still in place.  This is a very beautiful place to see if you are ever in Guatemala.

Central America

IMG 0167bw Central AmericaOur church is making another Central America trip this weekend and I will not be attending.  Our pastor, his wife, son and their sons friend will be visiting Honduras for a couple of days to do some mission work.  They will then go and visit El Salvador for a couple of days and then go to Guatemala for the last few days.

Back in 2006 I got to go on this Central American Mission which I thought was amazing.  I loved all the culture and the scenery.  I did however catch some awful flu that made me ill for a couple of days.  When I went we did not go to El Salvador.  The church is making this stop to visit their daughter’s in-laws.

While I was there we got to experience the area by encountering some river riding along the Rio Dulce in Guatemala.  We also visited some villages with many people that live poorly.  We hosted a three night church revival which got the attention of many believers and some non-believers.  It caused a couple of issues with the locals but it wasn’t that bad.

We also saw a baptism that took place in probably one of the coolest looking rivers in Honduras.  We drove into the jungle for a while and pulled over and hiked down into a stream and witnessed the baptism.

To hear how the people enjoyed our visit is great.  I recall the children’s expressions as the church bought a bunch of pizzas and allowed all the children in one village to come and eat.  It flew by very quickly.

I cant say I will go to Central America again soon but I know it is something I plan to do again in my lifetime.  I just hope that with the way things are in the United States that it doesn’t make it harder to visit these other countries and work with them.

Thanks for reading!

San Pedro Sulas Honduras

I took this photo back in 2006 when my pastor asked if I would go with him and some other church members to Central America.  We flew into San Pedro Sulas, Honduras and stayed there for a couple of days and then we traveled over to Guatemala.  I must say that it was a very interesting trip.  It actually gave me the a view of what the United States Citizens or Population take for granted.  We visited some churches in the area and actually hosted a church revival out in the streets a couple of nights.  Some moments seemed pretty intense when they told us the stories about revivals from the past.  They said the area is crawling with people that will kill you for no reason.  We actually encountered no hostile or violent experiences but there were some interesting characters that we came across.  I will try to put some more photos from Honduras and Guatemala soon but for now you can click on the Honduras and Guatemala categories to view them all.
