Upcoming Interviews

March 25th, 2010 No comments

I didn’t get too much feedback on the interviews so I went out on a limb and emailed a bunch of photographers that I follow around on facebook and twitter.  A couple of them responded that they were interested.  I am glad to say that I should have an interview to start off the April month with.  I will keep it a surprise who the photographer is but trust me you will love it.  I am waiting on a couple more responses from some other photographers that are still filling out the questions.  I plan on seeing how it goes and that way we could probably get a new interview every two weeks or maybe more.

If you are interested in doing the interview then fill out the questions and email them to me.

As for events….I have a big job lined up for next month.  The local Cal Ripken Little League agreed to allow me to photograph the team portraits for their program this year.  I am excited because I had always done the Police Activities League’s Soccer portraits for a couple of years and just last year I got to photograph the Firebaugh Area Swim Team for their team portraits.  Things are starting to look good this year.  I just hope I will be able to keep up with all the events going on.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share.

Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Manuel Perez

San Francisco

IMG 5486 San FranciscoWith the weather looking better here in California, I am thinking about taking some road trips but not sure how its going to fit into my schedule.  I know we really need to take the family to the snow up in Yosemite and to the beach to go see Monterey and Pismo.

This photo is from when we went to visit San Francisco a while back.  It was nice to get away from the valley and get some fresh air in those lungs.  I cant wait to get out again.

Central America

March 23rd, 2010 No comments

IMG 0167bw Central AmericaOur church is making another Central America trip this weekend and I will not be attending.  Our pastor, his wife, son and their sons friend will be visiting Honduras for a couple of days to do some mission work.  They will then go and visit El Salvador for a couple of days and then go to Guatemala for the last few days.

Back in 2006 I got to go on this Central American Mission which I thought was amazing.  I loved all the culture and the scenery.  I did however catch some awful flu that made me ill for a couple of days.  When I went we did not go to El Salvador.  The church is making this stop to visit their daughter’s in-laws.

While I was there we got to experience the area by encountering some river riding along the Rio Dulce in Guatemala.  We also visited some villages with many people that live poorly.  We hosted a three night church revival which got the attention of many believers and some non-believers.  It caused a couple of issues with the locals but it wasn’t that bad.

We also saw a baptism that took place in probably one of the coolest looking rivers in Honduras.  We drove into the jungle for a while and pulled over and hiked down into a stream and witnessed the baptism.

To hear how the people enjoyed our visit is great.  I recall the children’s expressions as the church bought a bunch of pizzas and allowed all the children in one village to come and eat.  It flew by very quickly.

I cant say I will go to Central America again soon but I know it is something I plan to do again in my lifetime.  I just hope that with the way things are in the United States that it doesn’t make it harder to visit these other countries and work with them.

Thanks for reading!

New Computer Build

PC1 thumb New Computer Build

I am working on building a new PC and I must say it gets pricey when you want to add things like redundancy.  I have been purchasing most of the parts from New Egg which is really great with the prices.  In fact I think just about all of the parts came from New Egg except for the processor which I got from my friend.  Nothing fancy on the cpu but my friend is going to over clock it for me.  Here is what we have in it so far.

1 ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/ SATA 24X DVD Burner 26.99 26.99
1 OKGEAR 6″ molex 4pin male to 15pin SATA power cable 2.49 2.49
1 OKGEAR 8″ molex 4pin male to two 15pin SATA 2.49 2.49
3 Antec 761345 120mm Case Fan 9.99 29.97
4 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB SATA Drive 119.99 479.96
2 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM 97.99 195.98
5 Tripp Lite 19″ SATA Cable 9.99 49.95
1 BIOSTAR P43-A7 LGA 775 Intel P43 Motherboard 64.99 64.99
1 Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Case 54.95 54.95
1 ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler 53.99 53.99
1 BFG Tech GS-550W ATX SLI Ready CrossFire Power Supply 49.99 49.99
1 BFG Tech GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Video Card 159.1 159.1
      1170.85

This does not count all the taxes and shipping for all the different times I had to buy this and then realized I needed this.  That is always a pain.  I plan on installing Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit on the OS.  I also have a 120GB SATA drive that I plan on hosting my OS on and using the 4 – 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 configuration and use it to store my music, photos and documents on.  I will have another 1.5TB drive that I plan on using for Backups which I know I will have to upgrade that soon to keep all the backups on.  Thankfully I use Storage Craft to do all my backups and I must say it is the coolest way for backups.

If anyone has any feedback I would appreciate it.  I am hoping to have this system up and running by next Friday since I have a Photography Gig coming up.  Wish me luck folks!

Water Means More Jobs

March 22nd, 2010 No comments

IMG 9236 Water Means More JobsI heard that the Central Valley Farmers are supposed to get more water this year.  That is great because the Valley really hasn’t been the same since the cut backs on the water.  Because of the water loss many farmers have closed their ranches and left.  This leaves a lot of farm workers without jobs and ways to support their families which in then crashes the economy because the workers leave the area lowering the population and causing cutbacks in school attendance which in then crashes everything else.

I hope that people will realize that the world doesn’t revolve around one fish to save over million of people.  Don’t they realize if there is no water for these crops then there is no food for the millions of people that get their produce from our fields?

I know that it should hopefully increase the chances of taking more agriculture photos.  I love to capture the moments of the harvests.  I have been waiting for the chance to catch the photos of the cotton harvest.  I have been wanting to do that ever since my grandfather was an irrigator and used to drive the cotton picker during the season.  Even when I worked for the local John Deere company in town did I get a chance to snap a photo of the huge combines that pick the cotton.  Hopefully this year!

Fog In March?

March 18th, 2010 No comments

PIC0078 Fog In March?I was driving to work on Tuesday and it was shocking that the fog was really bad on the way to work.  I thought it was funny that there was this much fog in the middle of March.  I didn’t have my camera with me but I pulled out my cell phone and snapped this photo with it.

This is a normal sunrise but what was funny was all the fog.

 PIC0075 Fog In March?

This is a photo of a semi driving down Highway 33.  I couldn’t get over how low the visibility was.  I thought about pulling over in some places but I was already going to be late if I didn’t hurry.

  PIC0076 Fog In March?

I thought this was crazy how you could see the fog line in this photo.  I am surprised that the police haven’t stopped me yet for snapping photos while I am driving.  I like to capture the moments and sometimes I am in a hurry to get to where I need to be that I don’t have time to pull over and snap the photos.

Photographer Self Interviews

March 17th, 2010 No comments

Pics52 Photographer Self Interviews Hello Photographers and Readers!  I am planning some ideas for the future and one of them is to get some more detailed information from photographers by doing an interview with them.  Of course this interview wont be televised but I do plan on posting the questions and answers.

I have some questions put together already and want to get any ideas on what kind of information do you want to know about your favorite photographer.  If you have an idea on how to get some more publicity for this idea then let me know.  I really hope to get as many photographers involved as possible.

Once I begin to get some feedback from others, I will begin posting the results from the interviews.  If you are know of anyone who is interested in doing the interview please let me know.  If you have a favorite photographer that you would like to have interviewed then let me know who they are and I will see if they are interested.

To see the questions click here!

Thank you all for reading!

Windows Vista

March 16th, 2010 No comments

VistaSystemProperties thumb Windows Vista Well, after all the reinstalls after reinstalls, I decided to go with Windows Vista Ultimate 32.  I tried running Vista Ultimate 64 but a lot of my programs didn’t like the 64bit environment.  I then tried going to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and the same thing.  I then went down to Windows XP 64 and the same thing.  I thought this is great!  I have 8GB of RAM and wont be able to use it all because I am going to have to go to Windows Vista Ultimate 32.  So I took out 2 sticks of 2GB, bringing me down to 4GB and after installing iTunes and importing all my music the system kept crashing.  So I thought I should put the memory back in and see how it runs.  It ran a lot smoother after the whole 8GB of RAM was in there.

I then began installing all of my programs again.  I am about 75% complete with installing all my programs.  I just finished the big Adobe programs and will begin the little ones later on tonight.  I am going to take my computer in to get it readjusted with the memory changes so that I can take out the 4GB and get it over clocked just a bit more.  I was burning a CD for my wife yesterday and I must say the thing flies.  I started playing the first song on the list of songs on the CD and before it finished playing the song it was finished burning the entire disc.

The system is running on an Intel Core 2 6700 CPU @2.66GHz over clocked at 3.20GHz.  The 8GB of RAM is fast.  I am waiting to come up with some money to buy an add in card for the RAID.  I plan on running a RAID 5 with the (4) Seagate 1.5TB 7200.11 Drives.  The motherboard supports 6 SATA devices but Vista doesn’t support RAID in the OS.

I would love to hear back from everyone to see what they think or if they have any advice on this computer technology subject.

Windows 7

March 12th, 2010 No comments

I have come across a dilemma with the new computer build.  Turns out that Windows Vista does not support a RAID 5 setup in the OS.  I can go out and buy a RAID controller and use the (4) 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 configuration to have redundancy on the drives or I can upgrade to Windows 7.  I am for sure that I don’t want to downgrade to Windows XP because I have been down that route and don’t want to go back.  I like all the features built into Windows Vista Ultimate and would love to have them.

I am thinking about purchasing the RAID controller card next month when I come across some more money but was thinking about just going to Windows 7 because it supports the RAID 5 in the OS.  I haven’t had much time to play with Windows 7 yet and wanted to get some feedback from you techies out there and see what you thought of Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have to have a 64 bit OS because I have 8GB of RAM.  If anyone else has other ideas I am all ears!

Ideas

March 9th, 2010 No comments

Hello Everyone,

I am writing this post today to see if I could get some feedback from you all.

I was surfing around on Blog Catalog and came across an interesting Discussion.  “Why don’t people leave a comment on my blog?”, was the title of the discussion.  I thought it was interesting because I hardly ever get comments posted on the site except for an occasional one here and there and not to mention the weekly bot trying to post some garbage on the site.

So, I wanted to get some feedback from you and see how many of you are actually reading these posts and would like to share or contribute to this site?  I would love to have other writers/photographers on this site as well to share their ideas and thoughts with the rest of us.  If you feel the content on this site is not interesting enough then please share your thoughts and feelings with me.  I can take criticism, because I was in the Marine Corps.

If you or someone you know could contribute or share their thoughts and ideas with me and the other readers on this site, I would appreciate your feedback and love to have you come on board as a contributor.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks for reading!
